Sometimes we just need the space to talk through difficulties and issues that make life so hard to cope with. Counselling offers a confidential, private and safe space, just for us - to talk through our difficulties with someone who is empathetic and non-judgemental and who is willing to hear our story.
Talking things through with a professional therapist can be helpful so that we do not feel we are burdening or hurting those close to us or will be judged for saying what we need to say. Counselling is not about giving advice but about giving voice to our situation so that we can help to understand, unravel and release tensions, working them through to find a point of resolution or acceptance.
Counselling is also about exploring the thoughts and feelings that can make life so difficult and also help support us if we are in a state of crisis.
Help with a variety of issues, whether in the here and now or reaching back in our past can be found:
Bereavement / Loss / Suicide, Termination & Miscarriage,
Relationship / Family Difficulties, Divorce / Separation,
Self Harm, Addictions, Eating Disorders, Anger Management, Abuse,
Anxiety / Panic Attacks, Depression, Mental Health Issues, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, Work Issues,
Redundancy, Spirituality / Faith Issues, Self Esteem / Confidence, Sexuality, Stress / Trauma / PTSD, Illness / Disability.
I believe in a holistic approach to resolving difficulties and healing ourselves. Therefore within therapy sessions I can incorporate other stress reduction techniques if desired such as:
Mindfulness / Meditation; Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT); Breathing Techniques; Stress Reduction Visualisation.
I am trained as an Integrative Counsellor which means I combine various counselling theories i.e. Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transpersonal & Gestalt – all different techniques to suit different clients / issues.
I am an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy and abide by its ethical framework. I have worked as a therapist for over 15 years.
My experience has been gained over many years in various settings such as charities, schools, private organisations, counselling agencies and in private practice. I also have several years’ experience managing a counselling service and team of counsellors for a charity.
I have worked with all of the difficulties listed above and have undertaken further training in a variety of specialised areas such as loss & bereavement; cancer and terminal illness; suicide; addiction; creative counselling; anxiety & depression in young people; mental health issues; relationship difficulties.
